On Contentment.
Assalam alaikum,
Contentment with the Decree of Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala (Ridaa) is one of the acts of worship of the heart. The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said:-''He has tasted the sweetness of faith: he who is content with Allah as his Lord, Islam as his religion, and Muhammad as his Prophet''.-[Muslim]
We therefore need to know that Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta'ala has portioned for us (for each one) our provision. As long as we work, we get what is written for us. In this regard, the Messenger of Allah, Sallallahu alaihi Wasallam, said, ''Know that even if the whole of community were to gather together to benefit with something, they would not benefit you with anything except that which Allah has already recorded for you, and that if they gather together to harm you with something, they would not b able to harm you with anything except that which Allah has already recorded against you''. [at-Tirmidhi]
Simply possessing the knowledge should empower us, because we thereby know that everything that happens is by the permission of Allah. This should not prevent us from reflecting and trying to figure out how our actions played a role, but learning from an experience is part of Contentment because you trust that Allah Tabaraka Wa Ta'ala is teaching you a lesson through trial.
